Students gear up for inspirational talks on careers in sustainability

On the 15th November, we are hosting an incredible day of TIC Talks: Transformational Inspirational Career Talks at the Bristol Cathedral Choir School. The speaker line-up is an impressive array of high profile celebrities and local Bristol CEOs and founders. The theme of the day is ‘Our Planet’ with carefully curated talks that are focused on everything there is to know about entering environmentally friendly careers in the face of the current climate crisis.


Bristol Energy Co-operative, a not for profit renewable energy solution, will kick off the day with a talk about power production. This will be further explored by Caroline Macdonald Founder of OggaDoon, an ethical marketing and PR agency; thenJo de Montgros, Founding Partner of Everozea specialist in renewables, storage and wider energy flexibility. These talks will cover how power production has,is, and will impact our planet, as well as how climate change is impacting future careers in the power production sector.

Transport and travel is the theme of the next round of talks with insight and expertise being delivered by Vijay Shah, an aerospace engineer currently working on designs for a hypersonic space plane, and representatives of Rolls Royce. They’ll be exploring the sustainability of our current transport systems, the impact of travel and transport on climate change, and what the future looks like for the sector.

Teaching and preparing the students about the overriding subject of climate change will be 
Johnny Issaluk, who already works with young people from all over the world as an Arctic Ambassador; Sam Speller, Director of The Lazy Leek who makes plant based street food; and PyroCore, leaders in future-ready pyrolysis solutions working to transform society's approach to discarded materials. Climate change already is and will continue to impact businesses extensively. These talks will discuss and inspire students to take steps to help the climate crisis in the workplace and job they choose..

Following that, panellists will discuss how legal processes and procedures have been impacted by climate change and how this may impact future careers as well as how businesses operate. Julie Snell from Bristol is Open and Richard Roberts from Pure Planet will be covering this informative section of the day. 
Bristol is Open is a joint venture between Bristol City Council and the University of Bristol which has resulted in a Smart City Research and Development network platform of multiple communications technologies installed around the city. Pure Planet is a 100% renewable energy solution who are helping to create a sustainable future.

Finally, once the students are brimming with knowledge and insight about what they’d LikeToBe and how their futures might look, the day will be rounded off by a panel discussion focused on future Innovations and Solutions. The specialist guest speakers on the panel will be BBC presenter and wildlife expert 
Chris Packham with Merle Hall, the Chief Executive Officer at Kinneir Dufort.

Speaking Opportunity

LiketoBe is hosting an Ethical Career Event at the Gordano School in Bristol on the 5 th March 2019. Hosted by TV presenter, Chris Packham, and filmed by a professional film crew for the LiketoBe website, the event can be accessed by all schools as part of Careers Week. Topics to be discussed include: social responsibility of modern-day entrepreneurs; cyber security; data protection & ethics; good ethics is good business; environmental responsibility; and equal opportunities in the workplace.
